User Email

Biochem Webmail

The department maintains a webmail server that you can use to access your email using a web browser on any computer. Email from biochem that is not automatically forwarded to another account will remain on the server as long as you do not have an external email client configured to delete the server copy.

To access webmail go to the following URL and enter the username and password you use in your email client to check biochem email:

http://biochem.wustl.edu/webmail

Email Client Setup

Follow the links below for guidance on setting up Biochem email with a third party mail client. If you require additional assistance or your email client is not listed below, please contact us, and we'll be happy to help.

Remote Email Access

Washington University has predicated that email servers on the wustl.edu domain not serve as open mail relays. As such, a mechanism has been implemented that requires user authentication to send email using a biochem address from outside the department network.

If you prefer to use an email client (e.g. Outlook) from home to receive and send email, we'll need to set up special access for your account. Please see the instructions here.

Alterntively you can use Webmail, which does not require any additional configuration. Additionally, if you have VPN access to the network, you can establish a VPN connection prior to sending and receiving emails.

SPAM and Unwanted Email

The department maintains a Barracuda SPAM blocking system that filters all email destined for a biochem.wustl.edu address. On average the Barracuda stops more than 10,000 unwanted mail messages and viruses per day. To date the Barracuda has blocked over 4 million unwanted email messages.

Even with capabilities of the current SPAM filtering system, some unwanted email still gets through. In order to train the system to more effectively identify SPAM messages, we've set up a special account that you can forward unwanted SPAM email to:

unwanted-mail@biochem.wustl.edu

Please note this is for SPAM email that is destined for a biochem.wustl.edu address. We cannot help with SPAM email destined for a non-biochem account.

If you have mail that is incorrectly marked as SPAM, you can forward the message to the address below, and we will adjust the settings on the SPAM filter accordingly.

wanted-mail@biochem.wustl.edu
